Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
courtorders.net (the "Service") is operated by CourtOrders, LLC, an Arizona limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"), based in Tempe, Arizona.
2. What we collect
- Account data: the username, email address (if provided), and hashed password you submit at signup, plus the timestamp of your last login.
- Usage data: the search queries you run, filter selections, the minute entries you open, and any bulk-download requests, together with the time of each event. We use this to operate the Service, debug issues, and improve relevance ranking.
- User-uploaded documents: files submitted to Match a Motion are written only to a temporary server directory for text extraction, deleted immediately after extraction, and are not added to our court corpus or stored in our database. The extracted text is used to complete that match request and returned to your browser; it is not retained as a document or search query.
- Weekly Digest subscribers: if you request the free Weekly Digest, we store the email address you submit and the date of consent so we can deliver and administer the subscription. Signing up for the Digest does not create a paid account.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser user-agent, and request paths, retained in standard web-server logs for security and abuse prevention.
- Billing data (if applicable): name and payment-method details, processed by Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
3. What we do NOT collect
- We do not load third-party analytics scripts (no Google Analytics, no Facebook pixel, no advertising trackers).
- We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.
- We do not access your search queries or downloads for marketing purposes.
4. How we use your data
- To authenticate you and operate the Service.
- To improve search relevance, classifier accuracy, and feature design.
- To detect and prevent abuse (rate-limiting, bulk-scraping detection, suspicious-login alerts).
- To comply with subpoenas, court orders, or other legal obligations.
5. Source data we publish
Minute entries and decisions shown on the Service are public records of the Arizona courts (including the Maricopa County Superior Court, the Pima County Superior Court, and the Arizona Court of Appeals) and contain names of parties, attorneys, judges, and case numbers. We do not redact this content. If you believe a specific entry should be sealed or amended, please contact the court clerk; we cannot modify the underlying record.
6. Cookies & local storage
We use a single session cookie to keep you signed in. We use browser localStorage to remember your light/dark theme choice. We do not use tracking cookies.
7. Data retention
Account data is retained while your account is active and for 90 days after cancellation, after which it is deleted unless we are required to retain it by law. Web-server logs are retained for 90 days. Search-query logs are retained for 12 months. Match a Motion uploads and extracted document text are not retained after the request completes. Weekly Digest subscription emails are retained while the subscription is active; you may ask us to remove yours at any time.
8. Service providers
- Vultr (Seattle data center) — hosting.
- Cloudflare R2 — backup storage.
- Stripe (if applicable) — payment processing.
- Anthropic / OpenAI / Voyage (if applicable) — AI features such as the chatbot, ruling predictor, or related-entry suggestions. Search queries used for these features may be sent to the provider for processing; the provider's own privacy policy applies.
9. Security
The Service is served over HTTPS. Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. Backups are encrypted at rest in Cloudflare R2. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized parties will never gain access to your data.
10. Your rights
You may request a copy of your account data, ask us to correct inaccuracies, or close your account at any time. If you are subject to the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), GDPR, or another applicable regime, you may have additional rights; contact us to exercise them.
11. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
